Dandenong Ranges Suburb – Olinda

Nestled high within the Dandenong Ranges, Olinda Village is one of the region’s most picturesque and popular destinations. Famous for its cool-climate gardens, forest walks, boutique shopping, cafés, and scenic mountain atmosphere, Olinda attracts visitors year-round.

Just over an hour from Melbourne, the village offers a relaxing escape surrounded by towering forests and colourful seasonal landscapes.

Olinda Attractions, Activities & Things to Do in Melbourne, Victoria

One of the area’s most famous attractions is Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden. Spanning more than 40 hectares, the gardens are renowned for spectacular displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, daffodils, and cherry blossoms. Visitors can wander through peaceful walking trails, picnic beside ornamental lakes, and enjoy panoramic views across the Yarra Valley. Spring and autumn are especially popular times to visit, when the gardens burst with colour and attract photographers from across Victoria.

Located within the botanic gardens is the beautiful Chelsea Australian Garden at Olinda. Inspired by the award-winning Australian display garden showcased at the Chelsea Flower Show in London, this landscaped attraction features native plants, waterfalls, boardwalks, sculptures, and sustainable garden design. The garden provides a unique contrast to the surrounding European-style cool-climate gardens while showcasing Australian flora and wildlife.

Another must-visit attraction is Cloudehill Garden & Nursery, a stunning private garden estate featuring formal hedges, colourful flower beds, woodland gardens, and a large nursery filled with rare plants. The garden changes dramatically throughout the seasons and is considered one of the finest cool-climate gardens in Victoria.

Nature lovers also enjoy visiting Olinda Falls, a peaceful forest attraction located within Dandenong Ranges National Park. The walking trails leading to the falls pass through dense fern gullies and towering forests, creating one of the most scenic nature walks in the region.

Visitors exploring Olinda often spend time wandering through the village itself, where boutique stores, art galleries, tea rooms, and cafés line the streets. Dining venues such as Olinda Tea House & Restaurant and Storehouse Roastery OLINDA are particularly popular for long lunches, coffee, and relaxing mountain dining experiences.

Additional attractions throughout the area include Pirianda Garden, RJ Hamer Arboretum (Parks Victoria), and George Tindale Memorial Gardens, each offering scenic walking trails, towering trees, and colourful seasonal displays.

Combined with its cool mountain climate and peaceful village atmosphere, Olinda remains one of the most enjoyable destinations in the Dandenong Ranges.
