New Year’s Eve is an all-night food extravaganza at SkyHigh with entertainment and drinks, with great options in both the lower-floor bistro and upper-floor function room.
The outside area is open to the general public for picnics and views. The front gate stays open until 11:45pm, and the exit gate is open until 1am. Once the car park is full, we ask customers to park in Ridge Road and walk up our entry road or exit road. Lines are long, so please allow plenty of time and arrive early.
No alcohol is permitted on our premises, but we have a fully licensed bistro open until 11:45pm to purchase drinks and snacks. There is only outside seating available. We are located in a national park, so please do not bring open flames – Gas BBQs, candles, sparklers, etc.
The indoor areas are reserved for bookings only, so if you don’t have a booking, outdoor seating is available only. We run a reduced cafe menu for NYE, so please check it before you plan your trip.
We have music playing over the front lawn, and the DJ will count down the New Year. Arrive early to secure your spot.

Adults only – Full 6-course degustation menu plus beer, wine, spirits, and soft drinks with a live band, photo booth, and entertainment. Shared tables of 10 and 12 people
Lower Floor Bistro Dinner (no entertainment)
Full 6-course degustation menu. Beer, wine, spirits, and soft drinks are at bar prices. Individual tables for your guests only for the meal, but no entertainment. The outdoor viewing area is reserved for you to see the New Year in, once the restaurant inside closes at 11pm.

Getting There
By Car (from Melbourne CBD)
- Head east from Melbourne (CBD) towards the M1 / Monash Freeway toward the Dandenong / Ferntree Gully area.
- Exit onto Ferntree Gully Road / Burwood Highway and continue toward Upper Ferntree Gully and the Dandenong Ranges.
- Merge onto Mount Dandenong Tourist Road via The Basin / Sassafras and follow the signs uphill toward Mount Dandenong summit.
- Turn into Observatory Road, then follow to 26 Observatory Road — that’s SkyHigh’s driveway. Parking is available (fee applies on busy days) as specified on their site.
Approximate travel time: ~45 minutes from CBD under normal traffic.
Using Public Transport
- Take the train on the Belgrave Line to either Upper Ferntree Gully or Belgrave station, or take the Lilydale Line to Croydon station.
- From Upper Ferntree Gully or Croydon, catch bus No. 688 (or bus 694 from Belgrave), which travels up Mt Dandenong Tourist Road toward SkyHigh.
Depending on connections, allow about 1.5–2 hours for the journey.
Hi i just wondering do you have any table left on new year eve for 5 peoples on the lower floor bistro dinner &entertainment?

Unfortunately, we are just a location tourism and information website and aren’t affiliated with Skyhigh or their New Year’s Eve event.
Having said that, i have looked at their event page at https://www.skyhighmtdandenong.com.au/whats-on/new-years-eve/, and using their booking system at the bottom of that page, i tried to book for 5 people and got the error message of “Sorry your booking is not available.”
It also states that “Full payment is required 4 weeks prior to the event or when the event becomes booked out”. Be that the event is now just 2 weeks out, i would definitely recommend calling them on (03) 9751 0443 to see if they have any availability and how payment can be arranged.

Is it open to the general public if you just want to see the fireworks and don’t need the bistro?

It does appear that you are in luck. It mentions on the SkyHigh website that “The outside area is open to the general public for picnics and views. The front gate stays open until 11:45pm and the exit gate is open until 1am.”

Be that there are no official Melbourne City fireworks this year, i am not sure if there will be much in the sky – aside from people’s random backyard displays.
