Sky High

Perched at the summit of Mount Dandenong, SkyHigh is one of Victoria’s most iconic lookout destinations, offering breathtaking panoramic views across Melbourne, Port Phillip Bay and, on clear days, as far as the You Yangs and Mount Macedon.

Located less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, this popular attraction combines spectacular scenery with family-friendly activities, landscaped gardens and dining, making it an ideal destination for a day trip in the Dandenong Ranges.

While the sweeping views are the main drawcard, there’s plenty more to explore beyond the observation areas. The beautifully maintained gardens change with the seasons, featuring colourful flower displays, native bushland, peaceful walking paths and several quirky attractions.

Visitors can relax beneath towering eucalypts, wander through the English Garden, discover the Secret Garden, or spot local wildlife including kookaburras, wallabies and the occasional echidna. Families will also enjoy the Giant’s Chair, the carved Australiana Tree, Percy Possum’s House and the popular Wishing Tree.

One of SkyHigh’s standout attractions is its hedge maze, regarded as one of Melbourne’s largest. The maze features fun challenges, hidden surprises, and activity stations that keep children and adults alike entertained. Visitors can collect stamps throughout the maze before claiming a small prize at the end, making it a favourite experience for families visiting the mountain.

If you’re planning to spend several hours at SkyHigh, there are plenty of food and refreshment options. The award-winning SkyHigh Bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week, with floor-to-ceiling windows making the most of the spectacular outlook. A more casual café and kiosk provide coffee, snacks and light meals, while picnic tables and public barbecues allow visitors to bring their own food and enjoy lunch surrounded by nature.

SkyHigh is also an excellent starting point for exploring the wider Dandenong Ranges. Nearby walking trails wind through towering mountain ash forests, while attractions such as William Ricketts Sanctuary, Olinda village and the National Rhododendron Garden are only a short drive away.

Whether you’re visiting during the day to admire the gardens or arriving at sunset to watch Melbourne’s skyline light up, SkyHigh remains one of the most memorable places to experience the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges.
