First settled by foreigners of European origin in around 1873, Gembrook saw lots of timber activity. This was because the settlers sought to prepare the land for farming, a testament to the efforts put on the agricultural front today. Interestingly, sawmilling became the main economic activity when the Puffing Billy Railway was built in Gembrook at the turn of the 20th century.

Today, the town’s landscape boasts vast farms of potatoes, grapes and flower farms that add to Gembrook’s natural beauty. The stunning views of the blue ranges in the distant make for a perfect background in the town, and it is no surprise that the town’s attractions draw tourists from far and wide.

Some of these attractions include the historic Kurth Kiln, the majestic Bunyip State Park and everything in between. Other exciting activities in the natural outdoors include horse riding and camping. JAC Russell Park is a family-friendly destination located right near the Puffing Billy station and is perfect for picnics.
