Waterford Valley Golf Course

Waterford Valley Golf Course is an 18-hole public-access golf course in Knoxfield, on Melbourne’s eastern side. The par-72 layout offers a full round among fairways, lakes and wetlands, with a choice of tees that allows players to adjust the challenge to their ability.

This is a booked sporting outing rather than a sightseeing stop in the mountain villages. Allow time for check-in, your round and any meal afterwards; golfers visiting the Dandenong Ranges can make it a separate half-day activity on the way to or from the hills.

Playing the Course

The course measures approximately 6,545 metres from its longest setup. Broad landing areas give room from the tee, while 11 lakes, wetlands and 63 bunkers mean that approach shots and the short game still matter. The five tee options let golfers adjust the length and challenge rather than treating the longest black-tee setup as the default for every round. Choosing a suitable tee is more useful than playing the longest course simply for its championship description.

A nine-hole round provides a shorter option, while 18 holes allows you to experience the full layout. Allow roughly two hours for nine holes and around four for 18, with extra time for check-in and any delays. Allow longer on a busy day.

Each player needs their own bag and clubs. The published dress requirements include a collared shirt, tailored clothing and appropriate golf footwear, with soft spikes only. Follow course-controller instructions, repair pitch marks and divots, and rake bunkers after use.

Green Fees and Cart Hire

The published 2026 green fees are $50 for 18 holes or $38 for nine holes midweek. Weekend rates are $78 and $45 respectively. Public-holiday rates are higher, at $80 for 18 holes and $50 for nine.

Midweek senior rates, excluding public holidays, are $45 for 18 holes and $35 for nine. Check eligibility when booking. Cart hire is a separate charge: the rate card lists $55 for 18 holes and $40 for nine.

Confirm your tee time, the number of holes and any cart requirement before arriving. Different day categories have different charges, so an older weekday or twilight offer should not be assumed to apply to a weekend booking.

Clubhouse and Golf Facilities

The course has a pro shop, motorised carts and a licensed cafe offering lunchtime snacks. These facilities make it possible to prepare for the round or finish with a drink, rather than leaving immediately after the final hole.

Call ahead about any equipment hire, cart availability or specific food-service requirement. A cart can reduce the amount of walking, but it does not establish that every tee, path or clubhouse area meets a particular mobility need.

Cart drivers must be licensed, and a maximum of two players can use each cart. Follow the venue’s driving instructions and keep clear of greens, tees, bunkers and water hazards. Weather and ground conditions can affect whether carts are available.

From April to September, published hours are 7am to 6pm daily. From October to March, weekday hours are 7am to 7pm and weekend hours are 6am to 7pm. Closing time is not the latest possible tee time for a full round; ask what departures are available for the number of holes you intend to play.

If you are combining golf with a visit to Olinda, Sassafras or another mountain village, allow separate driving time. Wet weather can change the pace and playing conditions, so follow the course’s advice about any interruption or restrictions.
