Starting at the Ferntree Gully Picnic Grounds amidst the history and awe of the 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial, competitors set off through the challenging trails and beautiful scenery of the Dandenong Ranges National Park in teams of 2, 3 or 4.

Schools are encouraged to submit teams in either the 15km Peter Holloway Cup, the 30km Alan ‘Kanga’ Moore Cup or the newly added 48km Cec Driscoll Cup, to take home the Perpetual Trophy for their school.

The suggested minimum age for the event is 13 or turning 13 on the year of the event for the 30km, and 10 for the 15km. Participants below the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult.

The Kokoda Challenge Youth Program is a 14-month program for kids aged 16 to 18 years old, which selects applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. The funds are used to help them learn valuable life skills. After their 20-week training, the youth embark on a trip known as the Kokoda Trail, where they engage in humanitarian activities before graduating. All individuals in the program are funded $10,000 each. Individuals who wish to support the teams may donate online or directly to the association’s bank account.
