The Great Train Race is one of the most popular events on the Dandenong Ranges calendar and is one of the longest-running ‘Fun Runs’ around Australia.
Great Train Race 2021 Puffing Billy Run Dates, Times & Course Map
This exciting challenge starts from the Belgrave train station and continues through to the lovely Emerald lake. The number of competitors is increasing every year due to the event’s increasing popularity. Believe it or not, the event welcomes up to 3,000 runners every year.
The race commences at 9:30am and runners will have a maximum of 120 minutes (2hours) to complete the race. Participants must be at least 13yrs to enter.
For spectators, the best places to view the race are at the West side of Belgrave-Gembrook Rd from 8:45am to 9:45am (Start Line), Trestle Bridge carpark (1.5km), Menzies Creek Station (6km), Emerald Railyard (drinks stand and parking available) (10km) and Emerald Lake Park (ELP) along the final 1km of the route and the finish line (12.5km-13.5km).
The Great Train Race is run by Puffing Billy’s railway volunteers who organise this event each year. Whether you come as a participant or spectator, you will certainly love this running race across the scenic pathways of the Dandenong Ranges.
